Homemade Horror Festival

Hey Spooky People!

We're thrilled to announce that some films do live twice.  Tonight, our 2013 film, "You Only Die Once!" screened to a packed crowd at Columbus' Gateway Film Center as part of the fourth annual Homemade Horror Short Film Festival.  We are even thrilleder to announce that we were chosen as best film!  There was some scary competition, and the whole night was a blast.

As a result of winning this competition, YODO! will be screening in front of Halloween showings of Psycho and The Shining at the Gateway.  We are honored to be sharing space at a great theater with such great films!

Stay tuned here for more on our upcoming projects.  We know we still owe you a retrospective on "Cosmic Questers '97," which will be coming shortly.  We've also heard the irregular flapping of some "Limpwings" that might make its way to your DVD player soon!

Happy Halloween!

Marcus

Cosmic Questers '97 is now online!

Greetings, earth-dudes and earth-dudettes! Eric here with good news: Our latest film and entry to the 2015 Minneapolis 48 Hour Film Project, Cosmic Questers '97, is now online for your viewing pleasure! It screened last night as part of the Best of Fest at the Mall of America, and I must say, it was a fantastic evening of films. Our good friends and oft-collaborators Circa Interactive (Dustin Solmonson, Ben Efron, and gang) beat out some seriously tough competition to take home the top prize for their film No Boys Club! We couldn't be happier for their well-deserved victory. Questers also took home a couple of awards: Best Sound Design (thanks Eric Pagel!) and Best Use of Prop (thanks Coaty!).

We'll go into detail about the entire 48HFP process very soon, but until then, please watch the final product: Cosmic Questers '97!

In addition to making the Top 10,  “Questers” was also nominated for the following awards:

  • Best Use of Prop
  • Best Sound Design
  • Best Special Effects

We couldn’t be more proud of the work our team put into this piece, and we’re excited for more people to be able to see it in a theater.  And for those of you who can’t make it, the film will make its online premiere after the screening, with a retrospective to follow that.

Until then, keep your eyes on this space for info on the awards as we continue to proudly split infinitives and make our plans for the future!

48 Update: We Made a Movie! And It Screens This Week!

Well, this is a tad overdue. The Minneapolis 48 Hour Film Project weekend is now almost a week behind us. I hope you all haven’t been waiting with bated breath since Marcus’ last post when he finished the script. If you have, then wow! You must have superhuman lung capacity!

You can exhale now. Because we did it! We successfully made a movie and turned it in on time without any loss of life or limb. And we’re very happy with the result! Our dedicated and talented team of artists delivered the goods, turning the weekend into one of our favorite film challenge experiences yet. Check out some production stills below and visit the Two Jackets Facebook page for even more:

I’m not going to delve into the nitty gritty of last weekend’s production in this post; we’re going to save that for an in-depth summation later this month when the local 48HFP events come to a close. After all, the film isn’t truly complete until it screens for an audience.

Speaking of which, you should come out and see it! Our entry, titled Cosmic Questers ‘97, is screening as part of the Group C Premieres at 7:00pm this Wednesday at the Riverview Theater. You can RSVP and see what other films are playing on the Facebook event page here. If you’re planning to attend, we recommend buying your tickets online in advance. You’ll save a whole dollar if you do! (Woot!)

I’m jacked for this week’s events, which include five blocks of screenings over three nights at the Riverview! Our screening can’t arrive soon enough, as I’m confident that the film will perform well in front of a live audience. It has all the requirements of a crowd-pleaser: action, comedy, romance, and Bill Dablow, packaged up in a totally awesome '90s wrapper! I’m also pumped to see our friends’ projects, including those by Two Jackets regulars, Craig Larson, Ben Efron, and Rachel Palashewski, each of whom had teams of their own.

So stop by the Riverview this week and take in a truly unique film experience. Over 60 teams made films in Minneapolis last weekend, in the same amount of time, with the same required elements. The result is a dazzling display of creativity and community. Join us, won’t you?
